“Royalty”

Have you ever forgotten something very important?  Most of us have at one point or another.  There are different tools and strategies we can use to help us remember the important things–calendar, planner, apps on your phone, post-it notes–just to name a few.  There is another way to help us remember what’s important in the life of faith–creeds.  As we rejoin our Advent message series, “Let Heaven and Nature Sing,” the carol that we will consider this week was written to help children remember a very important truth that will have a dramatic impact on our lives–who Jesus really is.

“Pure Joy”

One of the beautiful parts that I love about the Advent season is the Christmas mu-sic–but what makes Christmas music so wonderful? Not only is it beautiful, but the music proclaims amazing truth about the person and work of Jesus. Our Advent Message series this year is entitled “Let Heaven and Nature Sing”. In it we’ll be taking a look at the messages of these beloved carols and hearing the truth of Jesus being declared in these melodies. Join us this week as we unpack how Jesus brought us good news of great joy for all the world in one of the greatest Christmas hymns there is–Joy to the World

“Thankful”   

I Thessalonians 5:18

What do you have to be thankful for?  This is a question that we will be asked many times over the next few days.  If we stop to count our blessings, we’d run out of paper recording all the ways God has blessed us.  As we continue our series “Giving Thanks with a Grateful Heart”, we’re going to see instances of the people in Scripture giving thanks and what they’re thankful for.  My prayer is that through seeing thanksgiving written all over the pages of the Bible, it would inspire us to give thanks in all circumstances.

“Seeing God in the Midst of Trouble”   

Habakkuk 3:17-19

Have you ever wondered or even questioned why God does certain things?  Maybe you’ve asked questions like, “If God loves me, how could he do this?”  Or, “Why does it seem like the evil people around are getting ahead, while I am struggling?”  We even utter the question, “God, why??”  Habakkuk, an Old Testament prophet, asked God very similar questions–but as God responded to His questions we see Habakkuk’s response to God and how it led to a deeper faith and joy even in the midst of trouble.

“Fulfilled”

Matthew 5:17-20

As we rejoin Jesus as He’s preaching the Sermon on the Mount, we come to a major issue that needs to be resolved in the life of every human being–how can I be righteous?  Can I be righteous in my own actions?  Do I need something more?  Join us as we see Jesus speak about how He is the fulfillment of everything that the Scriptures promised–that it is only through Jesus that anyone can be righteous.

“City on a hill”

Every human being who has ever lived has had a deep craving–something that can completely satisfy the longing of our hearts.  The issue is that this world provides many different options that people seek after to try to satisfy this soulful craving.  But does it satisfy?  As we continue in our study of the Beatitudes, Jesus shows us the only thing that can truly satisfy the longing of our hearts.

Have you ever been so mad or hurt by someone that you just wanted to get even?  If we’re honest with ourselves, we’ve all been there before.  We feel the need to stick up for ourselves at any cost.  Yet, as we come to the next Beatitude, Jesus speaks on the blessing of meekness–yet this is often such a misunderstood trait.  Join us as we unpack what Biblical meekness is, how we get it, and the blessing of living in Godly meekness.

As we continue in our study of the Beatitudes, we now come to another “blessing” that doesn’t seem like such a blessing–blessed are those who mourn.  When I read that, my head spins!  How can mourning loss in our lives be a blessing that God wants to give to us?  Join us as we see Jesus illustrate how we can be blessed as we mourn. -Rev.
