“A Giving Heart”

Malachai 3:6-12

The prophet Malachi was given a vital task–to speak forth a warning to the Israelites of their need for repentance. To set the scene, there were about 50,000 Israelites who returned from the Babylonian captivity to Jerusalem, but they struggled with the same sin issues that led to the captivity in the first place–namely ignoring the priority of seeking God in their lives. As Malachi is pointing out all issues, God reveals something important to us–His heart for people. As we rejoin our message series, “Becoming a Reflection of God’s Truth,” we join Malachi in chapter 3 and notice that God’s heart is to be outrageously generous, and that we reflect the heart of God when we give like Him.

“One More”

1 Timothy 2:1-4

I was reading through my news app the other day and was overcome with a burden for the world. Friends, the world is lost! Everywhere we look the repercussions of sin and death are all around. We see division and strife, murder and hatred, nations warring against other nations. While this has always been the way of the world, I often hear the question posed, “Is this what God desires?” As we’ve been working through our OGC Vision and Values in our series, “Becoming a Reflection of God’s Truth,” we’ve unpacked what it looks like for a follower of Jesus to reflect the glory of God from a place of deep intimacy. As we rejoin this series, we find the apostle Paul writing to his protege, Timothy, who is the pastor of the church in Ephesus–and it is in here that Paul calls Timothy and us to the very heart of God and what He desires for the world. The question we need to answer is this; do I desire the same thing as God? I look forward to worshipping Jesus with you all.

“Living Life Together”

Acts 2:42-47

One of the highlights in Scripture is found in Acts 2. It was here that the promised Holy Spirit filled the disciples, and through this empowerment, the Apostle Peter gave one of the greatest sermons ever as he proclaimed the gospel of Jesus. Could you imagine seeing this with your own eyes? Picture the tongues of fire overshadowing the faithful? Be amazed at the response of the people to the gospel proclamation. Because of the Holy Spirit empowerment that day, 3,000 men (we estimate 7,000 people in total) came to saving faith that day! How amazing to see God working like this! As we consider such an amazing moment an important question arises–what do we do now? As we continue our message series, “Becoming a Reflection of God’s Truth,” let’s explore God’s desired response is for those who are All About Jesus, Holy Spirit Empowered, and Seeking the Deeper Life to live this life of faith together.
